Eligibility

The Union Aquatic Club is open to anyone who is at least 6 years old and has sufficient basic swimming ability to perform both a rudimentary freestyle for 50 yards (2 pool lengths) and backstroke for 25 yards (1 pool length). Please note that UNAC does not provide "learn to swim" lessons. Our club teaches competitive swimming, and practices consist of swimming many laps while learning and improving on the four swim strokes.

Registration

UNAC registration is done entirely online at the beginning of each session (with the exception of modified and varsity swimmers coming in after their school season is complete.)

Assessment

The UNAC coaches will assess new swimmers’ ability in the water to determine their appropriate practice group.

Things you need to know for the assessment at the beginning of each session and during registration time:

  •  Be ready to swim. Swimmer needs to come to the pool with a bathing suit on under their clothes and a towel.
  • Swimmer needs to have his/her own goggles for assessment.
  •  Bring a swim cap if you have one. If he/she makes the team, ALL girls and boys with longer hair must wear swim caps. You can get cheap ones ($5 or so on Amazon if you can't find one locally).
  •  If he/she makes the team, a registration link for UNAC and the USA Swimming membership will be sent to you that night.

Commitment

Many swimmers are involved in other activities that often conflict with practices or meets. As a result, it is not mandatory for swimmers to attend a certain number of practice sessions each week or compete in all of the swim meets. Swimmers are encouraged, however, to practice and compete as often as they can. Practices and meets will assist swimmers to improve and achieve faster swimming times. The more time a swimmer puts into practice and racing, the more he/she will get out of the sport.
